Miscellaneous Koans · CASE 19
From the Diamond Sutra
Preliminary koans studied before The Gateless Gate
Case
a) “Thus I hear.” b) “All the Buddhas and the Buddhas' dharma of the Supreme Way arise from this sutra.” What is this sutra? c) “In this dharma everything is equal; There is neither high nor low.” Why is Mount Ro high and Mount An low? d) Dwelling nowhere, Mind comes forth. e) If you try to see me through colours And to seek me through voices and sounds, You are on a false path; You will not be able to see the Tathāgata. How will you see the Tathāgata? f) All things are subject to conditions. Like a dream, a phantom, a bubble, a shadow. They are like the drew, like a flash of lightning. See things as such. g) Diamond Prajňā Pāramitā Sūtra.
